The Trade Development and Standards Cooperation Initiative

1. Trade cannot be separated from standards and that standards are a critical technical basis for economic and trade cooperation and development among countries with different levels of economic growth, different cultural backgrounds, and different market systems. Standards promote trade connectivity and are needed to provide technical support for the sustainable, inclusive, and innovative development of trade. Better standards for better trade and better trade for a better world.
2. Trade promotion organizations, chambers of commerce, industry associations, and other business support organizations (BSOs) all over the world to establish cooperation mechanisms with national standards bodies (NSBs) and standards development organizations (SDOs); make good use of the Global Trade Helpdesk of the International Trade Center (ITC), build an information platform for trade development and standardization cooperation, and prepare service guides; regularly hold bilateral and multilateral trade development and standards cooperation conferences; promote the development, implementation, and collaboration of international standard proposals in key trade fields and emerging trade fields; strengthen the coordination of international standards, technical regulations and voluntary sustainability standards (VSS).
3. Establishment of Organization for Trade Development and Standardization Cooperation, promote the establishment of national centers for trade development and standards cooperation led by the business community in each country and in conjunction with relevant stakeholders, and promote the foundation of innovative centers for trade development and standards cooperation in special industrial zones, taking into account the local and regional characteristics and advantages in each country.
4. The business community to raise awareness of standardization, follow up on developments in standardization, strengthen standardization capacity building, promote and support the internationalization of enterprises through the internationalization of standards, better participate in global economic governance, integrate into global value chains, and promote good global governance.
